David "Dave" Paragas Barreras, age 55, of Mission Hills, California, passed away on August 4, 2025.
Born on August 15, 1969, Dave grew up in San Francisco and graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1987. Soon after, he began his career and eventually worked at Nordstrom, where a chance encounter in 1994 led him to meet the love of his life, Tessie Velasco. Six years later, on the anniversary of their first date, they were married. In 2011, their joy multiplied with the arrival of their daughter, Alyssa, who became the heart of their family.
Dave's career later took him to Disney, the happiest place on earth, where he delighted in sharing magical moments with Alyssa as she grew. Known for his talent and creativity, Dave was always working on a home improvement project or tinkering with his beloved Jeep Wrangler. He had a gift for making spaces feel alive, whether it was fixing, building, or tending to the countless plants and trees he nurtured.
Above all, Dave cherished time with his family. From early morning breakfasts to simple family moments, his greatest joy came from being present with those he loved. He shared a special lifelong bond with his sister, Virgie Barreras. Though separated by long distances — Virgie in New York & London and Dave in California-their connection remained unshakable. Dave deeply admired her, always striving to make her proud.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife Tessie Barreras, his cherished daughter Alyssa Barreras, and his beloved sister Virgie Barreras. He will be laid to rest alongside his parents, Alex M. Barreras and Alicia P. Barreras in the Bay Area, details to follow.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Dave's life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 6:00-10:00 p.m. at Chapel Oddfellows, 401 N. Hagar St., San Fernando, CA 91340. Funeral Mass will follow on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 7800 Vineland Ave., Sun Valley, CA 91352.
Dave will be remembered for his kindness, his devotion to family, and the love he poured into every part of his life.
In lieu of flowers, family kindly requests donations to the American Heart Association.
